It’s not often I encounter a model whose into a sporty style. Most of them are all about haute couture, street style or experimental. Well, that faded a few weeks ago when I bumped into the gorgeous, fast-rising model Samali Lia, a Kenyan-Italian young lady currently studying. She’s a sporty girl; her love for fashion is undeniably great.
Samali very passionate about modeling; She hopes to take over the the industry real soon. She comes across as fun, reserved and pretty much a lover of travel. She’s been to virtually every place you can imagine. From Oman to France, her Instagram is laced with photos of her vacay escapades.
I spoke to her about her career prospects and here’s what she had to say:
BMRA: What’s your favorite magazine and TV show?
Samali: My favourite and only magazine is Cosmopolitan. I’ve been addicted to it since when I was 17. It has everything from fashion to makeup to hairstyles. Talking about TV shows there’s only one thing I watch and that’s Suits. It’s about lawyers but it also has a bit of romance.
Samali: I don’t like to stay at home. I prefer going out with my friend like on small road trips. I like clubbing. I LOVE shopping. But the thing I love the most is definitely ice skating and dancing.
BMRA: What’s your talent?
Samali: My talent is ice skating. I started when I was 5 and I got to compete in international competitions representing Italy with my team. I used to train 4 times a week for 4 hours each time but I had to quit when I moved to Nairobi.
BMRA: What’s your fave pet?
Samali: My favourite pets are dogs but not little useless ones like Chihuahuas. I like German Shepards and Rottweilers but my favourites are Huskies and Alaskan Malamutes. The only pets I ever had were parrots.
BMRA: Favorite travel location?
Samali: Actually I don’t know. I get to travel a lot luckily. I’m in love with Middle East countries. I also really like Japan very much. But home always remains the best. There’s no country like Italy. We have everything: nice sea, nice mountains, nice cultural cities and nice food of course.
BMRA: Do you love TV and media?
Samali: Not really. I get nervous when I have nothing to do. I need to move and do something useful. I think that TV and media are just for when there’s nothing to do. But when I’m using social networks, most of the time I’m on Instagram.
BMRA: How do you describe your fashion sense?
Samali: I care a lot about what I wear. I don’t have one special style but I have some rules that I never break. For example I never wear more than two colours together unless one of them is a neutral colour. I love neutral colours and I’m obsessed with sportswear and yoga pants.
BMRA: What’s your biggest dream?
Samali: I never thought about it. I don’t really have a dream. I’d like to graduate and get a job that allows me to keep traveling.
BMRA: Who do you look up to in modeling?
Samali: I always look up to Victoria’s Secret models. They are an example to follow in modelling industry. We all know how hard they work for it and how many hours they train, plus the diet plans they have to follow. My favourite is Jourdan Dunn, even though she’s not doing Victoria’s Secret fashion show anymore.
